John --
I'm deeply saddened for the communities of Atlanta and Boulder after this week's tragic and terrifying mass shootings. As family members still grieve, more details are emerging about the circumstances that contributed to these brutal attacks.
In Atlanta, we learned the shooter who murdered eight people was able to purchase his weapon that same morning thanks to a “no-wait” gun purchase law in Georgia. Just ten days ago in Colorado, a judge reversed an assault weapons ban established by the city of Boulder to prevent mass-shootings like the one we just witnessed.
How can this be, John? No one in the United States could reasonably believe we aren't in the midst of a gun violence epidemic. When asked, 93% of the American public agrees that we need to implement common sense measures like background checks to save thousands of lives.
The Senate is expected to vote on legislation requiring background checks on all gun sales. Please sign my petition urging swift, bipartisan action in the Senate to pass the House’s gun safety bills right away.
Since my election in 2018, I have voted twice to expand background checks and close gun purchase loopholes. But again and again, Republicans beholden to the NRA have worked to block our progress.
We have the majority, John. We cannot accept Republican obstruction and inaction any longer:
Add your name calling on the Senate to take up and pass the House’s gun safety bills right away.
Thank you,
Mike
