Earlier this month the House passed the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021, which will require universal background checks on all commercial gun purchases. I was proud to join House Democrats and take action to keep our communities safe. Now I’m calling on the Senate to do the same.

After the devastating mass shootings this month in Georgia and Colorado, we cannot wait any longer.

We see gun violence devastate our nation nearly every day, leaving people afraid to visit schools, malls — even places of worship. This critical legislation will help us tackle the gun violence epidemic head-on and keep our communities safe.

This week is the third anniversary of the March for Our Lives, a march on Washington where young leaders whose lives were affected by gun violence demanded action, and sparked a national conversation on the importance of common-sense gun safety reforms. We all know it’s long past time to take action and end gun violence.
