This is a BIG week for our democracy reform priorities. On Monday, the
House Oversight Committee held a hearing on D.C. statehood -- hopefully
its last! -- where Democrats made a strong case for the urgency and
justice of making D.C. the 51st state. And today, the Senate Rules
Committee is holding a hearing on S. 1 (the For the People Act), one of
the backbones of our democracy reform agenda.^1

With crucial bills moving in both houses of Congress, we’re hard at work
on all the advocacy it’ll take to get them passed. And we know it’s going
to be an uphill battle: quite frankly, as long as the Jim Crow filibuster
remains in place, we can expect Mitch McConnell to stop every one of our
top priorities in the Senate.

Luckily, these moments are when Indivisibles shine:

* Our organizers and local groups across the country are preparing for a
week of action during next week’s congressional recess to remind
members of Congress that their constituents are watching and keep up
the drumbeat for democracy reform and a bold recovery agenda.
* Our policy staff are keeping us up to date on the latest legislative
developments and working with coalition partners and folks on Capitol
Hill to push for bold, transformative policymaking.
* Digital staffers are creating call pages, placing ads, recording
videos, sending surveys, and more to get even more activists involved
and build a surge of energy for our top advocacy issues.

All this work and more is what it’s going to take to use this fleeting
trifecta moment to build a better democracy for the people -- and none of
it’s possible without support from the grassroots. We spend thousands
every month on web hosting, digital infrastructure, and organizing tools,
not to mention the quarter of a million dollars we’ve budgeted for our
