shared the news : starting Monday, the COVID-19 vaccine would be made available to everyone over 16 in Texas. The idea is to set up a statewide vaccination sign-up site, though its not at all clear the site will be ready to go by Monday, nor is it clear how state officials plan to accommodate communities that have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic, notably people of color and in low income communities where many have been working on the front lines during this crisis. (See more on that below.) As we continue to track what comes next, I hope you'll join me in thanking the team of producers and reporters at the Texas Standard including Jill Ament, Kristen Cabrera, Joy Diaz, Alexandra Hart, and Michael Marks who have done a spectacular job tracking and reporting the crisis in

"The Long Haul: Texas and the Pandemic," I encourage you to check it out for a reminder of what we've endured, and the challenges that remain. As I listened to the podcast version of the program again last night, I was reminded of the hard work and tremendous skill producers and reporters put into gathering the sound, and the amazing 'sound shaping' skills of our director, Leah Scarpelli, who always found the right touch of music or sound to help paint the picture of this unprecedented time in our history. I’ve officially been a Texan for about a year and a half. While I love it here, I miss being close to the people and places that helped shape me. The love my new hometown has for these same things was on full display in a recent series we did
