Today I am chairing the first Senate hearing on the For the People Act, a bill we need to pass to protect our democracy after years of attacks.

You've probably heard about the more than 250 voter suppression bills that have been introduced in state legislatures since the 2020 election. Why the sudden surge in these bills? Well, Republicans have decided the only way they can win is to cut people off from voting.

I don't have to tell you how antidemocratic that is. It’s completely contrary to the principles America was founded on. If you support my work to stop these voter suppression bills by getting the For the People Act done in the Senate, I'm asking you to make a donation today.

On top of protecting the right to vote, the For the People Act will get dark money out of our politics and create new ethics rules to make sure public officials are working for the public interest. I'm especially excited that it will create a new nationwide automatic voter registration program -- something I’ve championed -- and include the Honest Ads Act that I've introduced with Sen. Mark Warner.

If we want to keep our democracy strong then we need to pass the For the People Act. I'm looking forward to working on it in the Rules Committee and I'd love to know I have your support.
