“This is Jim Crow in new clothes,” Senator Raphael Warnock said last week in a chilling speech to the Senate floor.
“Just a few months after Congressman Lewis' death,” he continued, “there are those in the Georgia legislature, some who even dare to praise his name, that are now trying to get rid of Souls to the Polls, making it a crime for people who pray together to get on a bus together in order to vote together.”
It's clear that Warnock isn't taking the Georgia GOP's war on Black voters sitting down, and neither are we. We got Warnock elected in 2021, and we're going to make sure he wins again in 2022.
We can't disappoint Warnock like we did Stacey Abrams in 2018. We've let the GOP rig our democracy too many times -- and now our Senate majority depends on us not failing again.
Unfortunately, we have a long fight ahead of us -- they just successfully removed no-excuse absentee voting in Georgia, and now they're limiting mail in voting, cutting ballot boxes, and getting rid of early Sunday voting. And they're wielding their Senate filibuster to obstruct national automatic voter registration.
In 2020, you helped us send Rev. Warnock to the Senate during his special election against Kelly Loeffler. But now, we have to do everything possible to protect Warnock -- our democracy's future is completely on the line.
The GOP's resurgence of voter suppression legislation is resulting in a resurgence of dark-money donors ready to back their despicable cause. On the other hand, we're seeing Democratic fundraising plummeting when we need it the most. We NEED to meet this moment. We can't afford to get comfortable when the GOP is desperate -- now is the time to keep up our momentum and end the GOP's grip on power for good.
We're going all in protecting our progressive champions, and we're hoping you'll stand with us. We want to let Sen. Warnock and all of our candidates know we have their back as the GOP launches their assault on the right to vote -- but our March budget is DANGEROUSLY LOW. We're still $2,405 short of where we need to be by tomorrow to fully support our candidates in their battles against voter suppression.
