Do you know a Covid hero in your community?

A message from City Council Deputy Leader, Cllr Sally Longford:

sally longford

One year on, I?m in awe of the way our city has come together, from neighbours helping neighbours, our amazing NHS and care workers, to our hard-working frontline workers keeping vital services running and stepping up for the most vulnerable in our communities.

We?ve seen a huge amount of kindness, volunteering and community spirit ? things I hope we keep as we hopefully leave Covid behind. We are asking Nottingham people to nominate their Covid hero; someone who kept your spirits up, dropped off essentials or just went above and beyond. Once it's safe, we hope to plan an event to thank nominated Covid heroes.

Tell us who you think should be invited: Nominate your Covid hero

Many people in Nottingham have done so much to keep us safe and to keep the city going and the best way to say thank you is to stick to the rules to stop the spread of the virus. I would ask people to continue to follow the guidance of ?hands, face, space? keep up to date with the latest Government guidance and restrictions and take up the offer of a vaccination when offered.

?12.3m energy-efficient makeover for hundreds of Nottingham homes

Ultra energy efficient homes sneinton

It?s fantastic news that residents in almost 700 homes across Nottingham are going to get warmer homes and smaller energy bills, thanks to the City Council securing green Government funding. Schemes totalling ?12.3m will see a range of measures on private as well as council homes, from cavity wall, loft and floor insulation to solar panels.

Not only will those households benefit but the measures will contribute towards our drive for carbon neutrality by 2028. This is another example of Nottingham leading the way in tackling fuel poverty and the climate crisis. See more here

Police and Crime Commissioner Election 6th May 2021

Nottingham Skyline

Elections for the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) will take place on Thursday 6 May 2021. PCCs are elected by the public to hold Chief Constables and local police forces to account, effectively making the police answerable to the communities they serve.

Now is a good time to get prepared ahead of voting day. If you aren?t already registered to vote, you can apply online. I normally go to the polling station to cast my vote but this year, but like so many other things, I?ll be doing it differently and making a postal vote. Nottingham organisations are supporting Nottingham CN2028

If we are to meet our carbon neutral by 2028 target then city-wide action will be needed and it?s really encouraging to see that many local organisations have already started on their journey towards a sustainable future.

This month Nottingham City Transport is celebrating after winning the Environmental Improvement Award at The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Awards. The council is a major shareholder in this company and I am very proud of their achievement. NCT have reduced fleet emissions by 90% and significantly improved Nottingham?s air quality. I would also like to congratulate Nottingham City Hospital for securing ?25million of Government grant funding to replace their old, inefficient gas-fired boilers with a brand new energy centre. Combined heat and power units will provide low carbon heating and electricity for the hospital and the funding will also pay for the installation of other energy efficiency and carbon reduction measures such as LED lighting, photo voltaic panels and air-source heat pumps around the City Hospital. It is fantastic to see Nottingham organisations lowering their carbon footprint and saving money at the same time, which ultimately makes for a sustainable economy in terms of environment and finance.
