A.G. Holder is testifying at a Senate hearing today to talk about how this bill is essential to restoring and expanding voting rights. In fact, the For the People Act is the most comprehensive democracy reform legislation in decades. It would be the most effective way to combat existing (and the 253 proposed!) state-level voter suppression laws.

Here’s what’s at stake: Passing the For the People Act would increase access to voting by expanding vote-by-mail and establishing automatic voter registration. It would also modernize voting standards and ensure ballot counts are accurate.

It would also end the unfair practice of congressional partisan gerrymandering -- which secured unearned majorities for Republicans in the U.S. House during President Obama’s second term. We talk about redistricting impacting the next decade of politics. But truth be told, passing this bill would have lasting effects for generations .
