Hello --
I'm heartbroken at the news of another mass shooting in our country, just days after the tragedy in Atlanta. Once again, a community has been torn apart and will never quite be the same.
10 people, including one police officer, were killed yesterday at a grocery store in Boulder, Colorado. My heart is with the families and loved ones of the victims, and everyone in Colorado who knows the pain of mass shootings far too well.
This tragedy comes less than a week after a gunman shot and killed eight people in Atlanta, six of whom were Asian women. As a nation, we have become all too familiar with the pain of gun violence. Our children and communities shouldn't have to live in fear in grocery stores, spas, movie theaters, places of worship, schools, and the places they call home.
After an unprecedented year of tragedy and loss, this pain cuts deep. As we slowly recover from and reopen after this pandemic, we cannot accept a return to the levels of gun violence that have become "normal." These senseless attacks must end. We can, and we must, do more to end gun violence.
Words are not enough in times like this. As we grieve for Boulder, Atlanta, and too many that we have lost, we honor their lives with action. I am with you in this fight as we work to pass common sense gun safety reform.
I hope you and your family are safe and healthy.
With every good wish,
Maggie Hassan
