The Capitol Building is not open to visitors this session, but your calls and Zoom meeting requests are always welcome! Team Wielechowski's weekend adventure to the Mendenhall Glacier. Constituent Session Survey I value your thoughts and opinions on the major issues confronting the state and our district. Every spring, I send a constituent survey which allows you to share your priorities and concerns with me. The responses I’ve received thus far have provided valuable direction for the upcoming year. Please click here and take a few minutes to fill out the survey. Presenting SB 25 to the Senate State Affairs Committee. Senate Joint Resolution 1 - Enshrining the PFD in the Constitution Earlier this month, the Senate State Affairs committee heard public testimony on legislation I’ve sponsored, Senate Joint Resolution 1, which would allow the people to vote to enshrine the PFD in the Alaska Constitution. The resolution passed out of the State Affairs Committee and will be heard tomorrow, March 24th, in the Senate Judiciary Committee. You can watch tomorrow’s hearing online here. I believe SJR 1 is the only way to truly save the PFD and guarantee it for current and future generations of Alaskans. Senate Bill 25 - Online Checkbook Last month the Senate State Affairs committee heard testimony on SB 25 the Alaska Online Checkbook Act. Since I’ve introduced this bill, it has picked up 10 co-sponsors in the Senate and received broad bipartisan support in the spirit of government transparency. The intent of the Alaska Online Checkbook Act is to create a free, searchable website that provides Alaskans with easy access to detailed and comprehensive information on state spending. This will encourage better understanding of state operations and, ultimately, help ensure that funding is directed to the state's most important needs. Every other state operates a website that makes information on state expenditures and revenues accessible to the public. However, Alaska's site was removed in the spring of 2020 and the public no longer has an easy way to access to any of this important financial information. Alaskans have the right to know how our government is spending state funds, and Senate Bill 25 will allow for greater transparency and trust in our work. Covid-19 Vaccination Appointments All Alaskans over the age of 16 are now eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine. Appointments can be made here, with new slots added every Thursday. For those who have received one or both shots, all safety precautions including social distancing and mask wearing are still advised. I want to hear from you! As session goes on, please don't hesitate to give me a call to share your opinions on legislation, the budget or anything else you want my office to address. Due to COVID-19 it has become difficult to hold in-person meetings, but I am more than happy to set up one-on-one meetings with constituents over Zoom or by phone. Please contact my office at 907-465-2435 to schedule a meeting. Warmly, Alaska Senate Democrats | Capitol Building, 4th Avenue & Main Street, Juneau, AK 99801 Unsubscribe
