Our brothers and sisters of Asian heritage are living in a
state of terror. Members of the Asian and Pacific Islander (AAPI)
community feel that anything is possible, and they are
understandably afraid.

And right here in Atlanta, that terror became all too real last
week when a terrorist went on a shooting rampage at three
different spas and shot eight people dead. Six of the eight
victims were women of Asian descent.

And unfortunately, this was not an isolated act of violence
against the AAPI community. Reports of Asian violence have been
surging across the country over the past year, fueled and fed by
the racist scapegoating of Donald Trump and his far-right
extremists.

But instead of apologizing for their anti-Asian rhetoric, many
Republicans are doubling down. I was horrified, but unfortunately
not surprised, when Texas Rep. Chip Roy used the bully pulpit of
the House of Representatives to continue promoting outdated,
racist ideas about our Asian-Amercian brothers and sisters.

I pledge to stand by the AAPI community during this difficult
time, and I will stand against any public official who continues
to perpetuate racist, offensive attacks against the Asian
Americans who make up our communities.
