Hello —

11 years ago today, President Barack Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law. Over a decade later, this unprecedented public health emergency has only underscored the need for the ACA and its protections for people with pre-existing conditions — including COVID-19.

With the virus still spreading, Americans need to be able to receive medical care without facing financial hardship. We must make it easier, not harder, for people to seek appropriate care.

Our families have enough to worry about during this pandemic without Republicans threatening their health care, too. That’s why I have opposed right-wing efforts to weaken or eliminate the ACA and will continue to fight back against any cruel attacks on our health care.

Before the ACA, insurers could deny or drop coverage because of a pre-existing condition — or charge women more simply for being women. The ACA provided health coverage for millions of Americans who otherwise wouldn’t have it.

I will never stop fighting to protect health care for the 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions who rely on these protections. If you’re with me, add your name to my petition to protect our health care and ensure affordable coverage for millions of Americans in this moment of crisis. [[link removed]]

People should never have to worry about being able to afford the care they need. Today’s anniversary is an important reminder of why that must extend to everyone — not just right now, but always.

Take care of yourselves.

— Tina
