Friends,

This morning, for the second time in the span of a week, I woke up with a heavy heart. Yesterday, a gunman opened fire at a grocery store in Boulder. He killed ten people, including a police officer.

This tragedy feels all too familiar to us here in Aurora. Our community, too, has been rocked by violence more than once. We cannot accept mass shootings and national periods of mourning as normal. This fear, sadness, and anger that I know you are all feeling is something that no one should ever have to experience or carry with them.

I send my thoughts to members of the Boulder community, the victims and survivors of this attack, and their families. But I know that's not enough. We can't go on like this -- the cycle of tragedy, thoughts, prayers, and moving on. It has to stop with us. And if you are struggling with recent events, there are mental health resources available:

For the families, friends, neighbors, and community members whose trip to the grocery store ended in tragedy, I will not forget or stop pursuing justice.

It's what our communities deserve.

In strength,

Jason
