[link removed] [[link removed]] John,

The pandemic is still ongoing. Texans are still recovering from a winter storm blackout and nothing has been done to prevent another one.

And yet, Republican lawmakers will spend this week working to suppress the votes of eligible Texas voters at the next election. Two bills now moving at the Texas Legislature -- Senate Bill 7 and House Bill 6 -- would do just that.

Voting is fundamental to our democracy, but legislative leaders clearly fear it so much they are pushing measures right out of the old Jim Crow playbook to shut people out, make voting lines longer and hold turnout down.

We need your help to defend democracy. Will you join us in contacting lawmakers to tell them to vote NO on voter suppression?

Here's a sampling of what the bills, if passed, would do:

* Ban or restrict the large and secure voting centers that kept Texans safe from the pandemic while voting last November.
* Ban or restrict drive-thru and outdoor voting centers that make voting safe and efficient
* Make it harder for community members to volunteer their time to help the eldery get to the polls
* Make it harder for voters with a disability to access assitance to the polls

There's much more, but you get the picture.

Texans showed up in record numbers at the last election. We should encourage even more Texans to participate in democracy. Voter suppression is shameful, it's undemocratic and it must be stopped.

Please join us in defending democracy and contact lawmakers today.
