Hi Reader,
ProPublica has reported extensively on taxes and the IRS — from how companies like TurboTax, H&R Block and others have worked against making tax preparation easier (and free) to the huge backlog of paperwork at the IRS that is already slowing tax returns.
As the deadline for 2020 tax returns approaches, many Americans are struggling to navigate the filing process. Adding on COVID-19’s economic impact, this year brings new challenges and additional confusion for taxpayers across the country.
Please join ProPublica and Code for America for a live virtual event series:

This live digital event series will feature local tax experts from GetYourRefund.org, along with David Newville, senior program director, tax benefits at Code for America. They’ll provide both practical information for filing taxes, including, among other tips:
Tax prep options, either software or in-person, that are free
New rules for the earned income tax credit
Ways that unemployment insurance can affect taxes
Reasons returns may be delayed
You will also have the opportunity to ask your questions about the tax system.
Each event will include a local expert for questions on state-specific tax information, but you don’t have to file taxes in these states to join us! The federal tax information will be applicable to everyone filing taxes this year.
This session is not intended to give advice about your personal tax or financial situation; you should consult with a counselor or tax preparer with individual questions. Rather, it is intended to provide resources and information to clarify the confusing steps and requirements in the tax filing system.
Hope you can join us,
