On this date in 2010, the landmark health care legislation known as the Affordable Care Act (commonly abbreviated as the ACA) was signed into law. A star was born!

Eleven years later, the ACA is more critical than ever as we continue to grapple with the health and economic impacts of the COVID-19 crisis. The ACA currently helps insure roughly half a million Oregonians and many millions more nationwide.

But there are still Republican leaders working to dismantle the ACA because they are more concerned with appeasing Big Pharma and large insurance companies than providing affordable health care to Americans during a global pandemic.

If they succeed in their relentless attacks, the millions of people who rely on the ACA would be without access to reliable medical coverage and quality health care — leaving many vulnerable to out-of-pocket expenses and major health risks.

I am proud to be a part of a coalition of Democratic state attorneys general working together in defense of the ACA. Together --and all the way up to the United States Supreme Court --we fought against the Trump Administration’s unlawful attacks on the ACA, particularly over policies restricting women from reproductive health care services and discrimination against those with pre-existing conditions.

And I won't stop there. I will continue defending the ACA from Republican’s continued attempts to gut it, and I will do everything in my power to ensure safe, accessible, medical coverage and services to all.
