Hi John,

Across Maine, women are getting elected to city councils, school boards, and other local offices, and, in the process, changing our communities and our state for the better. Programs like Emerge Maine - which trains Democratic women to run for office - help give more women the tools we need to get elected. Yet just because we have a seat at the table doesn’t mean our values and voices are always heard. This is doubly true for women of color, where racism coupled with sexism can compound the difficulties of elected office.

I cut my teeth in local politics, so I’ve seen firsthand some of the challenges and opportunities that Maine women face. That’s why we here at the Maine Dems are teaming up with Emerge Maine to host an important panel discussion about why we need women in local politics and what it would take to level the playing field for us!
