We Condemn Anti-Asian Violence and Hate
Statement from the Foundation for Child Development

The horrifying mass murders that occurred in Atlanta, Georgia last week are a painful reminder of the recent rise in anti-Asian violence in America. According to Stop AAPI Hate, more than 3,800 incidents of anti-Asian hate have been documented since March 2020. We condemn attacks and racial violence perpetrated against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, as well as the racial injustices aimed at Black and Latinx individuals and Native Americans.

In 2020, the Foundation stood in solidarity with the protests against racism, white supremacy, and the killings of Black people. We also joined over 130 foundations and philanthropic organizations in signing an open letter to philanthropy from Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP) to condemn racism against people of Asian descent in the U.S. We continue to denounce xenophobia, prejudice, and racial bias present in our country.

The Foundation is committed to being an ally in partnership with our colleagues in philanthropy to dismantle the racist exclusionary policies, anti-immigrant structures, and cultural narratives intended to uphold white supremacy.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” ― Martin Luther King, Jr., Letter from the Birmingham Jail (1963)
