Dear John,
As soon as tomorrow, we could see a confirmation vote for Rachel Levine, President Biden's nominee for Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This nominee holds extreme positions that should result in total disqualification for such an important post.
Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) exposed just how radical Levine's views are at a confirmation hearing several weeks ago, pointedly asking: "The American College of Pediatricians reports that 80 to 95% of prepubertal children with gender dysphoria will experience resolution by late adolescence if not exposed to medical intervention and social affirmation. Dr. Levine, do you believe that minors are capable of making such a life-changing decision as changing one's sex?"
In a reply that was almost robotic, Levine dodged the question and offered a canned response: "Transgender medicine is a very complex and nuanced field . . . if I am fortunate enough to be confirmed . . . I would look forward to working with you and your office and coming to your office and discussing the particulars of the standards of care for transgender medicine."
These are serious questions that any Assistant Secretary for Health should be able to answer. Levine was unable to do so.
Levine's non-answers at the hearing were concerning enough. But evidence of his extreme transgender ideology abounds, and ideology - which threatens children and families - will surely follow Levine to HHS. This ideology also shows Levine to be out of touch with the vast majority of Americans, and makes him an unfit choice to help lead HHS.
Levine Advocates for Gender Transition for Children
Levine has openly encouraged parents to let their children choose whether to be a boy or a girl, advising adults to "try not to force them one way or [the] other" and instead follow the lead of children as young as five or six.
Levine has repeatedly advocated for children to obtain hormone blockers and begin transitioning into the opposite sex early in life.
Levine also said doctors could "accelerate" the process when dealing with "street kids" who come into clinics without their parents. He went so far as to say that in such cases, doctors may skip puberty blockers altogether and go straight to cross-sex hormones for adolescents aged 14-16 or perhaps even younger.
Levine Holds Radical Positions on Abortion
Levine denounced a 2016 Pennsylvania bill that would prohibit abortions after 20 weeks (the current standard was 24 weeks), calling it punishing for women. He also supported a policy that used the pandemic as an excuse not to inspect abortion clinics.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Levine Failed to Protect the Vulnerable
Levine infamously forced COVID-19 patients out of hospitals and into nursing homes and long-term care facilities, exacerbating the spread of the virus to the elderly and infirm, among whom it proved to be most lethal.
Levine has an alarming track record of prioritizing a radical LGBT agenda and partisan politics over public health, and his extreme beliefs are evidence that he must not hold a leadership role at HHS.
Please contact your senators today to tell them NOT to confirm Rachel Levine to become Assistant Secretary for HHS.
