The Trump administration has just proposed cutting the number of refugees who can enter the United States to 18,000—a record low. By comparison, annual admissions peaked at 85,000 per year over the last decade.

The drastic cuts to the refugee program are being made despite a dramatic increase in refugees worldwide who are fleeing their countries in search of safety.
This is shameful.
The United States used to offer refuge each year to more people than all other nations combined. Instead of dismantling our refugee admissions program, we should be strengthening it to ensure America continues to be a beacon.
