The Hill: Political fireworks fuel DC statehood hearing! CNN: Arguing against statehood for DC, congressman says it has no car dealerships (it does)

Yesterday afternoon, Republican House members bullied and cut off witnesses and claimed that DC's 700,000 residents should not be represented in Congress because -- wait for it -- the District doesn't have any car dealerships. It does. Then, a Republican witness claimed that DC residents already impact the national debate because Members of Congress see their yard signs on the way to work!

House Republicans did not want Americans paying attention to polling The Progressive Change Institute released this morning showing DC statehood is popular by double digits in swing states. (So are federal laws to override Republican voter suppression in places like Arizona and Georgia.)

See the polling House Republicans want to distract away from. Then, make a tax-deductible donation to poll more states to make the case even stronger for DC statehood and federal voting rights laws to override state voter suppression laws. Click here.

DC currently can vote for president, but has no representation in the U.S. Senate despite having more people than some states with Senate representation.

If DC became a state, nearly a million people would (finally) get representation in the Senate and Democrats would pick up two more Senators. (Joe Manchin would no longer be the deciding vote.)

To convince Congress, we are making the case and mobilizing the public.

Public opinion is key to victory. See our first few state polls and make a (tax deductible) donation to poll more states and keep building the case for DC statehood and federal voting rights laws to override state-level voter suppression laws. Click here.
