Monday Nature Mystery

We are pleased to announce the winner of last week's Monday Nature Mystery, Lauren DeAngelis Puckett! Please email us your snail mail address and preference for a hat or tote bag to: [email protected]

Lauren correctly identified one of our first blooming plants Skunk Cabbage (Symplocarpus foetidus). According to our good friends at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, the amazing Skunk Cabbage has the ability to heat itself to about 15 degrees Celsius to break through snow cover! This harbinger of spring can easily be found in marshy woodland areas. To learn more about Skunk Cabbage, click here.
