Commending Resolutions
One of the most gratifying aspects of being the Senator for the 13th District is being able to recognize outstanding individuals, groups, and businesses in the district each year during the legislative session. This year, I was able to put forward twelve commending resolutions during the session.
Ryan Janaske: This Ashburn middle school student was granted the Prudential Spirit of Community award for her work creating Kids Helping Kids, an organization to help give backpacks full of school supplies to kids in need.
The Lady Chamberlains: This women and gender non-conforming Shakespearean theater troupe has put on six full Shakespeare productions to date, and have raised over $10,000 for the Loudoun Abused Womens’ Shelter from ticket proceeds.
Jean Smith Brown: It was an honor to put forward a memorial resolution for Jean Smith Brown, a western Loudoun activist, civic leader, and preservation advocate who passed away on January 15th this year. She was a community leader who will be deeply missed.
The Warrior Retreat at Bull Run: This is a retreat program to help foster emotional health, confidence, and motivation for military service members who are recovering from serious injuries and mental health issues.
Akshath Mahajan and Maneesh Vallurupalli: These two high school students founded the Project Support Initiative, which assists elderly and immunocompromised members of the community by helping to deliver groceries and essential items.
LoudounGo: This distribution hub for local farmers and other vendors has helped keep local businesses afloat by helping to deliver locally sourced foods to customers and businesses during the pandemic.
Hero Home Inc.: This nonprofit builds and donates homes to disabled veterans and their families to help with independent living and home ownership.
Panorama Latino: This long-running Spanish language television show helps to serve the Hispanic community of Prince William County, providing vital community and health information for Spanish-speaking individuals.
Elaine Walker: Former Lovettsville Mayor Elaine Walker was a beloved member of the Loudoun Community who passed away on June 1st, 2020. It was an honor to put forward a resolution remembering her and her love of her community.
Loudoun Shops Black: This initiative was created to help connect community members with information about Black-owned businesses in Loudoun County, and to help support those businesses.
Claire Elizabeth Grainger: This brave young woman tragically lost her battle with addiction on February 3rd this year, and will be remembered for her compassion and love for animals, music, and art.
Ayana Ahuja and Saanvi Paladugu: These high school students raised over $100,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society with Team Tyler, a fundraising team named in honor of a 12-year-old cancer survivor in the community.
