1. In the months after the election, Brooks loudly and shamelessly promoted Trump’s “Big Lie” – the unsubstantiated election fraud conspiracies that fueled a frenzy among far-right factions of his base.
2. On January 6th, Brooks told a crowd of enraged, armed Trump supporters outside the Capitol that they must start “taking down names and kicking ass,” just before they stormed the building.
3. That night, Mo Brooks was one of the 147 who voted against certifying the 2020 presidential election, a last-ditch legislative effort to carry out the militant coup he’d incited that morning.
4. Facing censure and expulsion from his colleagues in the House, Brooks refused to apologize for his comments, instead saying he had no regrets, calling the rioters “patriots,” and claiming violence is a necessary and legitimate resistance tactic.
