Dear John,

“In the day that God created man, He made him in His own likeness. ____ and ______ He created them, and He blessed them.” (Genesis 5:1-2)

Imagine a world in which we’re not allowed to use the words missing from the Bible passage above. We’re inching our way ever closer to that reality.

The deceptively named “Equality Act” – one of President Biden’s top priorities, which has already passed in the House – wants to erase the concept of male and female from our society. And we expect a vote on it in the U.S. Senate this week.

How do I know that this bill wants to erase male and female? Because neither word appears in the 31 pages of the bill. You will find the authors have a lot to say about gender identity, sex characteristics and sexual desires, but will not acknowledge that there are two unique, biological realities—male and female—established by God at Creation.

Even worse than their denial of basic human biology is that the Equality Act weaponizes the federal government against any and all dissent on this topic. That's why we're working to stop it, and other laws like it. 

• Don’t want to use someone’s preferred personal pronouns? Here comes the state to tell you that you have to, or face legal consequences.
• Don’t want to place a child with a homosexual couple? Here comes the state to force you out of adoption services. 
• Don’t want to teach that gender is fluid, but instead that we are created biologically male or female from conception? There’s no place in the public school system for that.  
• Don’t want to print a pro-LGBT message on a t-shirt? That’s discrimination. The cancel culture mob will come after you, and so will your own government. 
• Don’t want to employ people at your Christian school who don’t share your deeply held beliefs? You’ll be violating federal law and you’re probably going to get sued, fined or both.
• Deny your minor child’s request to undergo sex reassignment surgery or begin puberty blockers? The government may take away your custody rights. 

Do these examples seem far-fetched? They’ve all already happened because of state or local ordinances similar to the Equality Act. So how much more will they occur if the Equality Act is federal law enforceable everywhere in the nation with the full power of the federal government behind it? 

The Equality Act is a direct assault on our First Amendment rights – a blatant attempt to suppress our right to free speech and religious freedom. 

For centuries the law has been on the side of religious freedom, but the left is working hard to rewrite the law, pushing government to change sides. Their goal is to criminalize our values and beliefs … to make it illegal to tell the truth about God’s design for men and women.  

Imagine half the country declaring that up is down and forbidding anyone to say otherwise. That’s where we are headed: a nation that denies objective reality because it prefers a lie.

Difficult times are upon us. More of our brothers and sisters in Christ will be persecuted for daring to hold biblical beliefs on God’s design for men and women – and not just in liberal strongholds like California and New York. It’s happening here in Minnesota (see here and here). That’s why we started our legal defense initiative, True North Legal, a couple years ago. We could see days like this in our future. 

Today I’m asking you to help sustain and build up True North Legal for the battles to come. We need first class legal experts – wise, bold, diligent and courageous men and women – to stand up for those who are in the crosshairs.

We have such people on board already, but urgently need even more. More workers, more time, and a stronger xxxxxx to protect the deeply held beliefs of Minnesotans from government threats. The Equality Act is a grave threat to religious freedom, parents and children, but it’s especially bad news for women. It throws out decades of progress in athletics, health care and privacy that came from acknowledging the crucial differences inherent in men and women. 

We have to draw a line in the sand, before there are no spaces left into which a man who “identifies” as a woman can’t invade.
