Washington D.C.
A major American city. Our capital city. Nearly 700,000 people living, working, paying taxes.
... all without representation in Congress.
On January 6, it was the D.C. National Guard that was called upon to restore order to the Capitol building. But the deployment was delayed for hours because DC's mayor doesn't get to approve use of the DC National Guard -- the federal authorities do.
During Black Lives Matter protests this summer, militarized federal police forces were ordered by President Trump to violently attack American citizens on D.C.'s streets and D.C.'s elected officials were powerless to stop it.
It's time to make Washington D.C. our 51st state. Sign the petition and urge Congress and President Biden to get it done.

The residents of Washington D.C. deserve to have a member of Congress and two Senators, just like the rest of us.
Not only that, they deserve to manage their own affairs. Right now, Congress can override many of the policies of the Washington D.C. City Council and Mayor. Here in Oregon, we don't want representatives from Texas or California or anyplace else overriding our state laws, and neither do the citizens of D.C.
Let's make D.C. a state, let them elect a Governor and a Legislature, and let the voters decide what's best for them. Washington D.C. should be run by D.C. residents, not a Congressional oversight committee with members from across the country.
After many years, Democrats are coming around to a consensus in favor of statehood. But for Republican politicians? This is just another part of their war on voting, on democracy itself.
That's why it's essential we act right now. The people of Washington D.C. deserve full representation. America can and should be better than this--we must not deny Washington D.C. residents the full measure of our democracy.
Please sign the petition: urge full statehood for Washington D.C.
