This day and age, we’re taught that all Americans are equal — that we all have basic rights and freedoms. But just under 200 miles from New York City, there’s a community of 700,000 Americans without representation in Congress. It’s called Washington, D.C.
Because it isn’t a state, Washington, D.C. and its residents don’t get a say — even though they pay their taxes, serve in the military, and raise families. To put it simply, the residents of the District of Columbia are treated like second class citizens.
Rep. Maloney has always worked to achieve equality. She started her career fighting for equal rights on the New York City Council, and to this day that continues to be her goal. That’s why she’s proud to support D.C statehood.
Carolyn agrees: it’s time to stop denying Washingtonians equal rights. Do you agree? Click here to add your name→
This should be a no-brainer, John. If all people are created equal, then all citizens deserve the same rights, no matter where they come from or where they live.
But some of Carolyn’s GOP colleagues disagree. They’re playing politics with the basic rights of more than 700,000 Americans. They’re more concerned about losing out on Senate seats than on ending this anti-democratic policy. Enough is enough.
It’s time for us to come together and demand better. Will you stand with Carolyn and support D.C. statehood to help elevate our fellow citizens out of second class status?
Thank you,
Team Maloney
