Hi,
This is a big week: I’ll be chairing the first Senate hearing on the For the People Act.
The For the People Act is about the most fundamental parts of our democracy: voting rights, campaign finance and election integrity. This legislation takes on even more meaning after the attacks on our democracy we’ve seen in the last few years.
Here are just a few of the important reforms the For the People Act would implement:
-
Make voting easier for everyone by establishing policies like automatic and same-day voter registration.
-
Ensure all Americans can cast a ballot by mail and have access to in-person early voting.
-
End voter-roll purges while modernizing states’ voter registration list maintenance practices.
-
Disclosure rules that will take on the special interests and dark money that are drowning out the voices of the American people.
It’s never been more important to pass the For the People Act to defend voting rights and protect our democracy.
In just the past few months, 250 bills in at least 43 states have been introduced to restrict voting access. This includes a bill introduced by Republicans in Arizona that would restrict voting by mail -- despite the fact that the majority of Arizonans, both Democrats and Republicans, have voted that way for years.
The federal protections in the For the People Act will protect the right to vote for millions of Americans and will shield voters from state lawmakers’ efforts to restrict ballot access. Will you show your support for this critical legislation by making a contribution today?
