John,
Well, we’re one step closer to knowing which Republican is the worst as Round 1 of our March Madness championship wrapped up this morning. Thanks to everyone who cast their votes so far! Here’s where things stand:
Now on to the Extreme Eight Republicans!
Mitch McConnell (1) vs. Ted Cruz (2)
Minority Leader Mitch McConnell got the overwhelming majority against Tom Cotton in the first round, while Ted Cruz cruised to victory against Marsha Blackburn. McConnell has the defensive advantage, best known for blocking most of the progressive agenda in recent years, but you can’t count Cruz out.

Josh Hawley (3) vs. Ron Johnson (4)
In our second Senate match-up, we have Missouri’s Josh Hawley vs. Wisconsin’s Ron Johnson. While Johnson may retire next year, Hawley’s star is rising with the MAGA crowd after the insurrection. We predict that Josh takes this one easily.
Who is worse?
Kevin McCarthy (1) vs. Matt Gaetz (2)
On the House side, we had a real nail-biter in California after top-seed Kevin McCarthy narrowly beat Devin Nunes by just three votes. He now faces fresh-faced Floridian Matt Gaetz, where we predict another close match.
Who is worse?
Jim Jordan (3) vs. Marjorie Taylor Greene (4)
Finally, we have Ohio’s Jim Jordan going against Georgia’s Marjorie Taylor Greene. Jim Jordan defeated Elise Stefanik in the most lopsided victory we’ve seen yet, earning 92% of your votes. He now faces the QAnon Queen Marjorie Taylor Greene. Can she pull off an upset?

Voting is now open, so make your picks today. We can’t wait to see who gets the dubious distinction of being in our right-wing Fanatic Four.
