Biden to stop Israeli home demolitions Dear Supporter, Israel’s policy of ethnic cleansing, forced evictions, home demolition, and territorial expansion is in overdrive. In the Jerusalem neighborhoods of Silwan and Sheikh Jarrah, nearly 2,000 Palestinians are at risk of being displaced by Israeli home demolitions and evictions to make way for a Biblical theme park and settler colonization. Please take action right now! Retweet our tweet to President Biden and administration officials demanding they take action to stop Israel’s forced displacement of Palestinians in Jerusalem.
In Silwan, Israel is planning to demolish 100 Palestinian homes to create a Biblical theme park, leaving an estimated 1,550 Palestinians homeless. In Sheikh Jarrah, 169 Palestinians are at risk of being evicted from their homes, which Israel plans to turn over to settlers illegally. Colonization of land under military occupation and the forced displacement of civilians for purposes other than military necessity are war crimes. The United States must prevent Israel from committing these acts of ethnic cleansing in Jerusalem. Your advocacy works and your voice matters! Earlier this month, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and 11 colleagues wrote a letter to Secretary of State Blinken stating: “We believe the State Department should condemn Israel’s home demolitions in unequivocal terms and take effective and timely diplomatic action to end this policy.” And last year, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) led a letter signed by more than 60 colleagues protesting the use of US weapons in Israel’s demolition of Palestinian homes in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Wadi Hummus. The letter read: “The United States should work to prevent unlawful home demolitions and the forcible transfer of civilians everywhere in the world and prevent the use of U.S.-origin equipment in this destructive practice.” In both cases, our work together helped mobilize Members of Congress to oppose Israel’s home demolitions. We need to raise our voices loud and clear to stop the massive demolition and evictions planned now by Israel in Silwan and Sheikh Jarrah.
