Hala’s not like most politicians. Hala didn’t run for the House of Delegates for fame, money, or power — she ran to make a difference for people who have been left out and counted out. She quit her job, cashed in her retirement savings, and when she was elected, she had just $68 in her bank account.

Her inner grit and moral compass have been forged from a life of hardship and challenge. But she has never given in nor given up. Instead, she dedicated her life to fighting for working families, like her own.

Hala’s leadership has already made such a difference for folks across the Commonwealth, from passing legislation abolishing the death penalty, banning no-knock warrants, ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment, legalizing marijuana and expunging nonviolent convictions, and so much more.
