Hi John —
Over the past few weeks, Republicans in Congress have been doubling down on their xenophobic lies against immigration reform, and Congressman Hakeem Jeffries just called it out for what it is — a dangerous distraction.
Jeffries is right — Republicans are trying to rile up their base's racist fears to cover up the fact that GOP senators and representatives unanimously voted against the critical American Rescue Plan, legislation that is IMMENSELY popular even among the Republican base.
Republicans in Congress are now promoting racist policies to control the damage and protect their hold on power, and they're willing to let people of color deal with the fallout.
It's clear that electing a Democratic majority isn't enough — we're working hard to elect diverse leaders who will push back against Republicans and their dangerous agenda. Leaders like Hakeem Jeffries and Tammy Duckworth are already taking the fight to the GOP and calling their xenophobia what it is, but we need more leaders who understand exactly what is at stake for Americans of color when the GOP amplifies these deadly lies.
There's just one problem — it is an enormous challenge for grassroots fundraising to keep up with big money donors in the early days of an election cycle. This is the time that the GOP pulls WAY ahead in fundraising, and progressives spend the rest of the cycle trying to catch back up. But if we're going to build the infrastructure we need to elect Democrats in 2022, we've got to build out our organizing today.

Thank you so much. Republicans may be willing to scapegoat people of color, but we're grateful to have folks like you on our team fighting back.
