Dear John,

When COVID 19 first ripped through communities across the United States and around the world, millions of survivors were forced to shelter in place with people who were hurting them. Domestic violence and sexual assault advocates sprang into action, with limited resources and virtually no time to prepare. As days of sheltering in place turned into weeks, and weeks into months, Futures Without Violence collaborated closely with individuals across the country to identify and amplify best practices for virtual and COVID safe measures, while working around the clock to generate critical funds to help partner organizations meet the urgent needs of survivors.

Thanks to the generous donation of $500,000 from The Allstate Foundation, Futures Without Violence was able to facilitate emergency funding to support the work of 17 domestic and sexual violence organizations across the country. With a focus on organizations that serve and support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color survivors of domestic and sexual violence, the funds were delivered to support the vital work of organizations that are serving those most vulnerable and marginalized at a time of critical need.

We would also like to take a moment and recognize the incredible individuals, who participated in our Call For Courage campaign to raise awareness and support for survivors during these unprecedented times.

In order to highlight the lifesaving efforts of these organizations, and to enlist the general public in our campaign to support their efforts, we rallied the support of courageous and committed advocates, survivors, and celebrities that included, Actors & Activists, Nicole Kidman, Andra Day, Aurora Perrineau and Alyssa Milano; Survivors & Entrepreneurs, Sarah Cheung (SACHEAU Beauty) and Rosanna Burgos (MamaBee); and Journalists, Zinhle Essamuah (NowThis News) and Sarah Spain (ESPN).

Click here to watch the Call For Courage video series to hear about the innovative ways in which leaders such as Karma Cottman of Ujima, Kavita Mehra of Sakhi, and Coach Valencia Peterson of Open Door Abuse Awareness Prevention Program are meeting this unprecedented moment to help survivors seek safety and justice during the pandemic.

Today we salute the unwavering and tireless efforts of front line responders who are answering the Call For Courage in all that they do to support survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault each and every day, throughout the pandemic and beyond. Thank you for your support and for standing with survivors, and all who are dedicated to keeping them safe and helping them heal.

With respect and gratitude,
