Friend,
I've long been proud of my home state for being a leader on LGBTQ+ civil rights. For almost 15 years, Washingtonians have been legally protected from discrimination based on their sexual orientation or gender identity, and our state enacted marriage equality years before the Supreme Court made it the law of the land.
Right now, the Senate has the chance to ban discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in all 50 states by passing the Equality Act -- and I wholeheartedly support it.
If you want to help end discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans, add your name today to urge the Senate to pass the Equality Act.
The Equality Act would amend the 1964 Civil Rights Act to explicitly prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. It would mean that our LGBTQ+ friends, relatives, neighbors, and colleagues no longer have to fear losing their jobs or being denied housing because of who they are or who they love.
I commend the House of Representatives for passing the Equality Act last month. Now, it's time for Republicans in the Senate to stop blocking progress so we can send it to President Biden's desk.

Thank you,
Maria Cantwell
