This weekend marked the 18th anniversary of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, a turning point in our nation’s history and a defining moment in the lives of many members of our community. Our work is dedicated to recruiting those veterans to revitalize our democracy by running for office. And last week, we witnessed the impact of that work: Four New Politics candidates who are serving in Congress introduced bipartisan legislation ending Congressional authorization for the Iraq War.

Democratic Reps. Jared Golden and Abigail Spanberger and Republican Reps. Mike Gallagher and Peter Meijer are making us prouder than ever to have endorsed their campaigns. Through their service in the military and in the intelligence community, they’ve experienced firsthand the post-9/11 conflicts in the Middle East. Now, as national security experts serving in Congress, they’re reasserting the legislature’s Constitutional role in declaring America’s wars.

Moments like this are the reason I founded New Politics. To empower servant leaders to leverage their leadership skills in elected office. To help the next generation step up and tackle 21st century challenges. To elevate problem-solving across party lines rather than hyperpartisanship.

Just imagine what we could accomplish if all 535 Representatives and Senators shared those values.

That’s why our work is far from finished. As we celebrate this important milestone with the leaders we’ve recruited and helped elect, we’re laser-focused on our goal of recruiting 150 more candidates during the 2022 cycle.
