We As Democrats Believe:

"We are witnessing right now a massive and unabashed assault on voting rights unlike anything we’ve ever seen since the Jim Crow era. This is Jim Crow in new clothes."

Flip NC Studies How Other States Have Turned Blue

With Joe Biden, Roy Cooper and Cheri Beasley winning New Hanover, our county took a step toward blue in the last election. But how do we turn the Old North State blue? More than 500 Democrats listened in earlier this month as Democratic activists described the efforts that led to historic advances in Georgia last year. Flip NC  and Neighbors on Call organized an online forum March 10 called "Building a Grassroots Strategy to Elect Democrats in NC: How Georgia Did It.” Kendra Davenport Cotton, COO of the New Georgia Project Action Fund, talked with Diane Robertson, DNC Deputy Finance Chair and NCDP Executive Committee member, about what North Carolinians can learn from Georgia’s successes. The speakers pointed out that the states share a lot of similarities in population and demographic trends which offer promise that Georgia's election of two Democratic Senators and support for Joe Biden can be repeated here.

Assistant District Atorney Explores Run Against Rouzer

Former Assistant District Attorney, Jason Minnicozzi, is considering a Congressional run against incumbent David Rouzer. Minnicozzi attended NC State University and Campbell University School of Law. After graduating law school in 2010, Minnicozzi has served the Cape Fear community as an Assistant Public Defender and Assistant District Attorney as a special victim’s prosecutor. Back in January, Minnicozzi formed an exploratory committee to assist him as he continues to develop a pathway forward. Minnicozzi said he is eager for advice from members of the community, especially members from the local Democratic county leadership, as he considers his potential candidacy.

Minnicozzi grew up visiting Wilmington and fell in love with the region. He went to undergrad at NC State University. He lives in Wilmington, in Precinct H04.

Attorney Andre Brown Seeks NHCDP Chairmanship

Andre Brown, a Legal Aid attorney and Wilmington native, announced that he is running for Chair of the New Hanover Democratic Party. "Our party needs a combination of diverse, and experienced leaders to ensure that our priorities and our most pressing needs are adequately addressed," he said. Brown said working with his local precinct, W29, has shown him how the power of organizing locally and pursuing Democratic ideals and principles can have a meaningful impact in our community. . . I am now asking for the opportunity to be a county leader within our party to help pursue our shared objectives," he said.

The incumbent County Chair, Richard Poole, has withdrawn from the race and announced his support for Brown.
