Warning: This email discusses gun violence and the racially-motivated attack against the AAPI community that took place in Atlanta this week. If the contents of this email are too disturbing, feel free to ignore this message. -- Bob

Hello,

Over the past year, we've seen a rise in violent crimes against the Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI). Earlier this week, we witnessed disturbing events in Atlanta that claimed the lives of eight Americans -- six of whom were Asian American women.

My heart goes out to all those impacted. This wave of anti-Asian hate and violence sweeping our country must stop, and all public officials have an obligation to condemn it. And condemning the attack in Atlanta and the rise of anti-Asian violence is only the first step. As Americans, it's our duty and obligation to be allies to our loved ones in the AAPI community.

We must acknowledge our country's long history of racism and hatred directed towards Asian Americans and work to dismantle it to make a safer home for all. I'm joining with my Democratic colleagues in the Senate to meet this moment by taking action to stand against hate and eradicate the extremism fueling this violence.

As we continue to see a rise in hate crimes -- especially against members of the AAPI community -- the Senate has an opportunity to make the country safer for victims of hate crimes. My bill, The Disarm Hate Act, would ensure that anyone who has been convicted of a violent hate crime would have zero access to a gun.

Hate cannot win. If we care about the safety of our communities, it's imperative that Congress acts now. The coming days are absolutely critical, and how we respond will set the tone for the kind of America we want the next generation to grow up in. There's no time to waste.

Thank you,

Bob
