Friend,
The For the People Act is a monumental piece of legislation that must be passed. Enacting automatic voter registration, an end to partisan gerrymandering, vote-by-mail expansion, and so much more, the For the People Act would level the playing field in our democracy. But it is no sure thing and the time to act is now.
Join us this week for our week of action to build the momentum needed to pass the For the People Act.
From workshops to digital toolkits, Slack channels to coffee hours, we have a wealth of options to help you not only take action, but amplify the actions of others so that we can multiply our reach.
We have workshops for you to join and toolkits you can use to get started today. Here’s how you can take action this week:
- Digital Organizing Workshop. If you’ve ever found yourself wondering aloud either of the following two questions — “how can I get more involved?” or “how can I get others more involved?” — then this is the workshop for you.
- This workshop will walk you through how you can take action each day in a matter of minutes. But importantly, we will show you how you can use our new #digi-wing channel in Slack, and the power of your fellow volunteers, to expand the reach of our actions by working together.
- Democracy takes more than one person and it’s time our workshops and Slack did the same. Join the Digital Organizing workshop to learn how you amplify the actions of others and make a difference together!
- Contacting Your Representatives. At NextGen America, we’ve made our view on passing the For the People Act clear: It is an essential bill to our democracy and we should abolish or reform the filibuster to pass it if necessary.
- Abolishing the filibuster will take all 50 Democratic senators to agree to a rule change. Currently, not all have publicly affirmed their support for filibuster reform. If you live in Arizona, West Virginia, California, or Maine, and you have not contacted your senators before and would like a walkthrough, this is the workshop for you.
- Likewise, if you live in Massachusetts or Kansas — two states with two senators whose minds are most certainly already made up on the filibuster — it might be a better use of your time and resources to attend the Digital Organizing workshop. Calling your representatives is undoubtedly an important tool in organizing. But if your time and capacity is limited, please consider where you can make the greatest impact!
- And so much more! We have workshop staples, such as our popular Personal Story Sharing workshop and weekly Coffee Hour.
- We will be phonebanking on Tuesday and Wednesday and texting on Monday and Thursday to encourage Arizona voters to urge their senators to sign on to filibuster reform and pass the For the People Act.
We started our 2021 organizing advocacy on January 19 with a special event to share our plans with you. Since then, 824 of you have joined us for special events, attended workshops to call and email your representatives, and made our Slack virtual office a more welcoming space. We’ve made big changes to our Slack virtual office to help you find actions to take and amplify the actions of others.
Join us for our week of action and let's get the For the People Act passed.
Thank you,
Eric Babb
