Team --
March of 2021 is certainly looking better than March 2020. This time last year, the World Health Organization had just declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. Our lives as we knew it changed, and we entered an era of unprecedented challenges and uncertainty.
But as we near the close of March 2021, things are finally beginning to look up.
President Biden announced that we are set to have enough vaccinations for all Americans by May. That's just over 2 months away. Just over a week ago, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan into law, providing direct $1,400 payments to many Americans who are struggling. It also includes my funding formula to provide direct relief to local governments, no matter the population size of the county, city, town or village.
In addition to COVID-19 relief, I'm proud to be working in the House to pass a wide range of legislation that lifts up and supports upstate New Yorkers from all walks of life. Equality and non-discrimination for the LGBTQIA+ community. Justice in policing. A pathway to citizenship for our Dreamers. Immigration reform that works for migrant workers and our farmers. Supporting survivors by reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act. Taking on the NRA by passing universal background checks and giving law enforcement more time to complete checks.
These common-sense reforms are supported by the vast majority of the American people, but we all need to keep doing the work to get them through the Senate.
Things are looking up, team. Slowly but surely, we are getting a taste of normalcy. As long as we continue to social distance, wash our hands, wear masks, and continue to get through vaccine distribution, we will get there.
With love,
Antonio
