The value of predictability.

Dear Reader,

You may have seen our first email about this spring campaign from Mila, announcing that we’re looking for 25 people to become new recurring members, and I wanted to explain why this particular goal is so important for us. Why are we asking our readers to support our reporting with monthly gifts? Does it matter whether someone gives a larger amount once vs. a smaller amount each month?

Recurring gifts are incredibly valuable to PublicSource. Why? Simply put, because of the unique stability that recurring gifts provide. We get funding from grants, but funding priorities change, and we can’t count on receiving the same funding year to year. We receive one-time gifts, but their ebbs and flows are not always predictable. Every person who chooses to make a recurring gift helps us know what we have to work with tomorrow and helps ensure a strong future for local journalism in Pittsburgh. Recurring gifts allow us the flexibility to stretch to reach emerging needs, to pursue ambitious projects and take on more stories. They allow us to produce complex and impactful projects like our True Cost of Court Debt series ([link removed]) , which resulted in county government officials applying for funds to pursue fine and fee reform, and take on new forms of storytelling like like our just-launched project on education in the COVID era,
Screen Test ([link removed]) .

In short, recurring gifts make the reporting you value possible in a sustainable way.

So far we’ve reached 12 new recurring donors toward our goal of 25. Will you help us close this gap by making a gift of $10 or more a month?
Yes, I'll make a monthly gift. ([link removed])
Thank you, as always, for your readership!
