Banks are abandoning rural towns, creating “banking deserts.”
We can save rural towns (and the USPS) by passing the Postal Banking Act.
SIGN ON: Demand Postal Banking!
Rural areas across the country are turning into banking deserts as banks close less-profitable branches.
American Banker reports on what happened when Duncan, Arizona’s last bank closed:
Local business owners no longer have a place to deposit cash each night, nor anywhere nearby to apply for a loan. Many senior citizens, especially those uncomfortable with digital banking, have felt an outsize impact.
But what every rural town does have is a Post Office.
Let’s solve the Postal Service crisis and banking deserts all at once - with postal banking! Tell Congress to pass the Postal Banking Act now.
Postal banking will open financial doors back up for rural towns by allowing Americans to open savings accounts at every USPS branch.
Americans without bank accounts will be able to cash checks and send money without predatory fees. And, it helps save the USPS by providing it a new, stable source of funds.
At the Six PAC, we are fighting for rural communities across the country by electing progressives to represent what’s important to them.
Tell Congress: pass the Postal Banking Act now!
Thanks for signing on.
