John --
Last night, Democrats and Republicans in Congress came together once again to pass the American Dream and Promise Act -- landmark legislation that offers a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers as well as those with temporary status.
As I cast this vote, I couldn’t help but think of my grandparents who immigrated from Mexico when they were young children. They believed in the promise of this country and the values we hold dear. In passing this legislation, I’m proud to say that we upheld those values.
Dreamers -- kids who were brought to the United States at a young age and grew up here -- are American in every sense of the word. They have contributed far too much to our country to continue to face fear and uncertainty surrounding their status.
It speaks volumes that we passed this legislation with bipartisan support, but as you know, many Republicans in the Senate have made it their mission to block our progress. Our bills are piling up and set to languish -- all because of Mitch McConnell’s not-so-secret weapon: the filibuster.
We can’t let that stop us. We owe it to every immigrant child who grew up knowing the United States as their home to get this passed:
If you agree, add your name to demand that Mitch McConnell and the GOP do what’s right and finally provide a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers.
We need to keep all options on the table to push critical pieces of legislation like this one forward.
Thank you,
Mike
