John,
Right after the general election in November of 2020, Facebook announced that it would ban fundraising advertisements from political campaigns. For a grassroots campaign like ours that relies heavily on individual donors to support and grow our movement, this was a detrimental move from the start.
What's more, this decision from Facebook — coupled with the fatigue that many folks were feeling towards the end of 2020 — set us back by a lot more than we originally anticipated. And while Facebook finally lifted their ban on political campaign fundraising ads (four months later), we're still trying to catch up on fundraising before our big end-of-quarter fundraising deadline in less than two weeks.
Your donations keep Jamaal legislating and support our on-the-ground and digital organizing efforts — but that's not the only thing they do.
Your donations also help build and grow our progressive movement for change, from raising tens of thousands in mutual aid support to bringing actionable steps to further causes like the Care for All Agenda, universal health care, union organizing, and more.
We're proud that this movement is bringing big, bold policy changes and addressing the immediate needs of our communities — and to be funded by individual donors like you all at the same time. We're successfully causing problems for the status quo, and pushing what's possible in the halls of Congress.
Thank you for your support, John.
