Hello, Friends —

This week, House Democrats brought the American Dream and Promise Act to a vote. Despite its patriotic-sounding name, this is a truly terrible bill, which offers amnesty to millions of illegal aliens residing in the United States. As the crisis on our southern border continues to grow (largely because President Biden rescinded the effective policies of the Trump administration), a bill like this is the last thing Congress should be considering.

In one of his first official actions, President Biden restarted the failed “catch and release” policies of the Obama administration, and reversing President Trump’s policies that helped to secure our border.

In February 2021, over 100,000 illegal immigrants were apprehended at the southern border — roughly three times the monthly total from February 2020. What a difference a year makes!

The surge at the border is a direct result of the Biden Administration’s lax enforcement of our immigration laws. By providing amnesty to millions of individuals currently living in the United States illegally, Democrats are placing the interests of those who violated U.S. immigration law above the interests of those who waited, often for many years, to enter America legally.

The immigration bill this week fails to include meaningful enforcement provisions; it leaves DHS unequipped to handle the swell of illegal immigration, and it would greatly increase the flow of illegal immigration into the United States.

Not only does the bill grant green cards and “special amnesty” to virtually all illegal aliens in or entering America, loopholes in the bill would allow individuals convicted of dangerous crimes — including members of MS-13 and other gangs — to receive green cards. It even makes a special invitation to individuals deported by the Trump administration, specifically allowing them to apply for green cards.

I voted against this awful bill. While there are many areas of the immigration system in significant need of reform, this is absolutely the wrong approach.

On Wednesday, I appeared on Newsmax to discuss the crisis at our southern border, as well as the disquieting fact that US taxpayers may be unwittingly funding the recent waves of illegal immigrants. Watch it here:

COVID VACCINE ELIGIBILITY EXPANDED

On March 19, 2021, Executive Order 21-62 went into effect. This important EO means that all individuals 60 and older are now eligible to receive the Covid-19 vaccine in Florida.

The current populations have been prioritized to receive COVID-19 vaccines:

  • Long-term care facility residents and staff;
  • Persons 60 years of age and older;
  • Health care personnel with direct patient contact;
  • Persons determined by their physician to be extremely vulnerable to COVID-19;
  • K-12 school employees 50 years of ages and older;
  • Sworn law enforcement officers 50 years of ages and older; and
  • Firefighters 50 years of age and older.

On Monday, March 22, Executive Order 21-67 will go into effect. This order further expands the list of eligible individuals. As of Monday, the list will include anyone 50 years of age and older.

Individuals can pre-register for vaccine appointments and be notified when appointments are available in their area by visiting myvaccine.fl.gov.

Additionally, as part of the statewide registration system, each county has a designated phone number that individuals can call and pre-register if they do not have Internet access. The complete list of numbers is available here, and local numbers are below:

  • Escambia County: 866-201-1025
  • Okaloosa County: 866-200-3599
  • Santa Rosa County: 866-201-7110
  • Walton County: 866-201-3054
  • Holmes County: 866-201-3925

Finally, the number of participants in the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program continues to grow. This program — a joint collaboration of the federal government, the state of Florida, and pharmacy partners — has helped to increase access to COVID-19 vaccination statewide. Appointments at retail pharmacy locations must be made through the pharmacy’s website. Find appointment information at participating pharmacies below:

Florida sheriff sued over program that ‘predicts’ crime

U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz has called on Florida’s governor to remove a sheriff who was sued this week by four residents claiming an intelligence program run by the top cop’s agency violated their constitutional rights. In a tweet on Thursday, Gaetz, a Republican congressman from the Florida Panhandle, said Gov. Ron DeSantis had the authority to remove Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco and should consider doing so. “I don’t care that this is being done by a GOP Sheriff,” Gaetz said in the tweet. “It’s awful to harass citizens because you think they may commit crimes, hoping to make their lives miserable.”
