Tell Congress:
We must save the U.S. Postal Service. It’s time to immediately reintroduce and pass the Postal Banking Act.

John,
For decades, we’ve seen repeated attacks on the U.S. Postal Service. These attacks not only threaten the essential and affordable mail services Americans have relied upon since our country was founded; they also put postal workers at risk of losing good-paying jobs―including Black workers, workers without bachelor’s degrees and military veterans.
During the pandemic, we've seen the essential role the USPS plays in ensuring people throughout our country can vote safely during a global pandemic, receive prescription drugs and more.
We cannot allow Wall Street and their allies in Congress to undermine the USPS. It’s time for the Biden administration and Congress to strengthen the Postal Service while at the same time providing essential services to the “unbanked”―by expanding the USPS’s mission to include Postal Banking.
Join CHN and our growing national coalition. Sign the petition to demand Congress save the USPS by immediately reintroducing and passing the Postal Banking Act!
"Postal Banking" means we could bring basic financial services like low-cost savings and checking accounts to post offices throughout our country, helping millions of people with low incomes who are "unbanked or underbanked."
Once set up with a USPS banking account, people would have the trusted services of the U.S. Postal Service to protect them from predatory practices like payday loans, high-fee prepaid debit cards, and outrageous overdraft fees. Postal Banking would help address long-standing financial inequities.
Not only would Postal Banking create basic banking services at the USPS―helping millions of people by offering a low-cost banking alternative to the Big Banks―but this legislation would generate essential revenue streams for the U.S. Postal Service.
While unfamiliar to many, Postal Banking is far from a new concept.
The U.S. had a Postal Savings System from 1911-1967 which in 1947 had $3.4 billion in assets (more than $35 billion in today’s dollars). And worldwide, 1.5 billion people receive some financial services through their postal service.
Together, let’s demand Congress pass the Postal Banking Act, which was previously introduced by Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Bernie Sanders. Once passed, this critical legislation will not only support the USPS, but give underserved communities across the country critically needed financial protection.
John, can you take 30 seconds and add your name to our petition to demand Congress pass Postal Banking legislation?
Thank you for all you do to demand accountability from our political leaders and to fight for the needs of people with low incomes.
