Maine Conservation Voters

Dear John,

Glyphosate, the main ingredient in the toxic Roundup weed killer, is an herbicide that has been aerially sprayed on Maine's forests for more than 30 years.

The chemical is deemed a "probable carcinogen" by the World Health Organization and is linked to a whole host of human ailments. Research has found undeniable loss of wildlife diversity in areas sprayed with glyphosate.

Right now, we are working tirelessly with our allies to ban aerial application of this toxic chemical on Maine's forests in the State Legislature, but we need your help to get this bill — and other urgent environmental priorities — over the finish line this legislative session.

A group of MCV's committed board members will TRIPLE MATCH every dollar we raise between now and March 31 to ensure we have the resources to ban the aerial spraying of glyphosate and ensure our other priority bills are passed this year.

Will you chip in $35, $50, or whatever you can to take advantage of these generous matching funds?

Glyphosate has been banned in 10 countries, and at least 15 additional countries restrict its use. Here in Maine, dozens of communities have banned or restricted herbicide and pesticide use, including glyphosate.

In addition to risking human health, entire forest and aquatic ecosystems are disrupted by the spraying of glyphosate. The EPA found that glyphosate likely threatens nearly every animal and plant species on the list of threatened and endangered species. It's long past time for Maine to ban the aerial application of this dangerous chemical on our forests.

With your support, we will keep fighting for the ban on aerial herbicide spraying on our forests and for our other legislative priorities, including:

·       Recognizing tribal sovereignty

·       Funding the Land for Maine’s Future Program

·       Stopping Maine landfills from filling up with out-of-state waste

·       Revolutionizing recycling so that producers (not tax-payers) are held accountable

·       Allowing the Public Utilities Commission to include climate and environmental justice in decision making

·       Establishing a Green Bank to finance climate solutions

·       Phasing out toxic PFAS chemicals

·       Funding energy efficiency and weatherization projects

Our team is working to advance these policies every day. We're meeting with legislators, providing testimony, rallying public support, strategizing with coalition partners, and organizing activists and our members—like you—all over the state who care about Maine’s water, air, wildlife, and forests.

This critical work can only happen with your partnership. Your thoughtful gift, triple matched today, will do so much to help create the better future we know is possible for ourselves and generations to come. Click here to triple your impact and donate whatever you can to help protect the Maine we all love.

Warmly,

PS - Consider spreading your donation throughout the year by joining our monthly donor program, Kennebec Friends. The steady and powerful support of Kennebec Friends provide the resources to respond the moment a threat appears to our environment or democracy.
