We know much of our city's infrastructure is in need of updates. One of the most pressing needs is an update to the power supply for the drainage system. As of now, the City of New Orleans needs $20 million to update the power supply for the system, which Sewerage & Water Board Executive Director Ghassan Korban said is in "a fragile state."

The recently passed American Rescue Plan allocates additional funding for cities like New Orleans to help cover revenue that was lost as a result of the pandemic. But some in the legislature want to use this as an excuse to withhold state funds that could be used for updates to the drainage system.

We need to act now to prevent that from happening. Contact your legislators and tell them to fight to make sure New Orleans get its fair share of funding for our sewerage system.

This fight is too important to be ignored. New Orleans needs these funds to update and repair the power supply for the drainage system. Our legislators must keep their promise to the people of New Orleans and fully fund the update of the badly outdated power supply for the city's drainage system.
