We just did something big, John: My administration just unveiled a moonshot plan to make tuition FREE for state residents at every public college in New Mexico.
I'm proposing that every high school graduate who maintains a 2.5 GPA should get access to a four-year degree and that anybody who wants to earn job or skills training can come back to school for a two-year associate's degree.

No other state has gone this far to make public education accessible to all New Mexico students – no matter what their income is or if they took time off from school to go to work or to raise families. But these opportunity scholarships are how we build New Mexico's future, and folks are taking notice: Everyone from the New York Times to NPR is calling this one of the boldest plans yet to increase access to higher education.

Free tuition at public colleges could be transformative for working families and set the model for our entire nation. But, John, you’ve been with me every step of the way in this fight for New Mexico’s students – from raising educators’ salaries to expanding access to preschool education – and right now I’ve got to hear from you. Tell me what you think:

Should we make public colleges FREE for New Mexico’s families?

Together, I know we’re going to keep building a brighter future for our students and moving New Mexico forward. Thanks for being a part of this.
