John,

Yet again, the House has taken necessary action to protect the American people from gun violence.

I’m proud that our legislation requiring universal background checks for gun sales passed with bipartisan support.

Now, with Democrats in control in Congress and the White House, we finally have a chance to require universal background checks for all gun sales -- and we can’t pass it up.

We’ve done our part in the House of Representatives. We need the Senate to approve this legislation as soon as possible. Please, add your name to our petition calling on the Senate to take long-awaited action against gun violence. We have to make one thing clear when we talk about gun violence prevention, John: This isn’t a controversial issue. Polling after November’s election found that more than 90% of Americans, including 67% of gun owners and 64% of Republicans, support universal background checks.

The American people want to be safe -- in schools, in movie theaters, in houses of worship, at the mall -- and they know that universal background checks are a necessary part of ending the gun violence that is so unique to our nation.

Sandy Hook. Las Vegas. Parkland. El Paso. The list of American communities that still bear the scars of mass shootings is too long for one email.

With this crucial background check legislation, we have a chance to prevent more cities and towns from being added to that long list. The Senate must make passing it a priority.

John, if you’re ready to see real action to prevent gun violence, sign our petition today.

Thank you for speaking out,

Suzan
