Dear team,
Here's some breaking good news:
A federal court just granted a preliminary injunction on our South Carolina case, blocking the state's law that would have banned abortion as early as six weeks into pregnancy—before many people know they're pregnant.
The ban was scheduled to take effect today, but will now remain blocked while our lawsuit continues. As the Judge said in her opinion:
"Thus, it is nothing short of baffling when Defendants here make the fanciful, misbegotten, and misguided argument that the Act is constitutional, although surely, all the while knowing full well that it is not."
There's more work ahead to fully defeat this unconstitutional law, but this decision is an important step forward. With you by our side, we're prepared to fight to ensure that all South Carolinians get the health care they need and deserve.
Thank you for standing with us!
In solidarity,
Center for Reproductive Rights
